In 2025, the electric bicycle market will overtake the electric car market according to Sweden Sustaintech Venture Day veteran and visionary Rickard Bröms. He envisions a development for cities where all shorter transports inside large cities are made with electric smaller vehicles. Many cities have already regulated car traffic as has Paris from 2024. As Richard says, it is almost a bit weird that we sit alone and wait in car queues in overly large tin boxes like cars.

”Ok when we are transporting ourselves long-haul, the car is a great innovation. But in the city when there is not much more than one person to transport, it just does not make sense. Furthermore, electric cars require very large batteries, which is not entirely sustainable given the lack of materials.,” says Richard Bröms, CEO and Founder.

Vässla is present in a number of markets globally. In 2022 Vässla launched its subscription service, a given success, even if the credit model itself had to be slightly adjusted from the original model. Vässla has also launched the world’s first unisex electric bicycle which won a design award in Germany. The waiting list for the bike is long and the company produces at a calm pace in order to be able to build in control.

“The CO2 emissions from transport is 7.4 gigatons, and 3 of these come from passenger cars. 80 % of these transports are actually short transports, easier done by bicycle, moped or scooter and this is where our huge potential lies,” says Richard Bröms.
