Sometimes reflection is doing good. The Swedish Energy Agency has been the main partner to Sweden Sustaintech Venture Day since the start in 2019, and when Director General Robert Andrén is about to make his fifth inauguration of the event, he reflects on the immense development made in the Swedish cleantech space since 2019. Companies are scaling up at a rapid pace, making Swedish sustainable tech innovations available to the world, solving the climate crisis on a large scale.

We have brave entrepreneurs with innovative technology all over this country. We stand ready to take on the risk sharing in the early stages. As a government agency promoting export, we can be nothing else than proud this year. Sweden is now exporting sustainable energy and energy solutions at a large scale” says Robert Andrén.

The present innovations and co-operations are mostly concentrated to make the gigantic Swedish grid to prepare for the feeding in of different renewable sources. Sweden has both the know-how, the public financing and the companies to be able to build this growth further, according to Robert Andrén. Therefore the team of Sweden Sustaintech Venture Day has chosen The Future Flow of Energy as the theme. The SSVD 2023 stage programme will deep dive into the whole energy system and the transition as the world is making the shift towards many different sources in the same system.

In the first year 2019, almost only the early stage group of pure cleantech investors visited SSVD. We now see that there is an increasing number of actors besides large companies having been part of our financing programmes, ranging from seed to midrange companies with innovative solutions on for example energy storage and balancing solutions” says Robert Andrén.

Since 2019, financial markets as well as society have been shaken to their ground and life has been turbulent. Still, data shows that the question of future energy solutions stands the ground. Now, there is an urgency to move even faster, according to Robert Andrén. The need now is especially for the lawmakers to facilitate processes so that we can move faster.

Processes around permits etc must be made more efficient and speedient to allow for both new production and distribution of electricity, as well as for reinvestments in existing infrastructure. I am glad to see new businesses developing around both efficiency, flexibility and balancing solutions regarding energy consumption. We try in many ways at the Agency to accelerate the clean energy transition, says Robert Andrén.
