LexEnergy will be one of four companies participating in the Spotlight session on Tuesday called Flexibility makers – and we talked to CEO and Founder Matilda Thorsell to ask her more about Lex Energy – what exactly is their contribution to flexibility in the market? It appears to be a great deal.
How was Lex Energy founded and where in terms of market development are you now?
”We were founded in 2022 based on our strong experience from the energy market, battery storage, and EV charging industry. We have developed an ultra fast charging solution with an integrated battery storage and our own software platform. This we have done by exactly selling that; the service of flexibility and sustainability” says Matilda Thorsell.
LexEnergy, visionaries with a drive to tackle big challenges, saw the strain on the outdated power grid as more than a problem—it was an opportunity to transform the energy system and shape the future of EV fast charging.
LexEnergy make use of an already existing grid connection, adopting to the consumption pattern, and thereby delivering ultra-fast charging even in areas with a strained power grid. By integrating cutting-edge power management algorithms and an innovative hardware design, LexHub offers seamless, high-speed charging without requiring costly grid infrastructure investments. Lex Energy typically work with utility owners like for example Kinnekulle Energi or Affärsverken, property owners like ICA or automotive actors like Kia Sweden.
EV charging has become a quite crowded space, what is LexEnergy’s unique features?
”We have a smartness in how we operate the battery infrastructure to balance the grid, and thereby provide lower costs for our clients. As we can use existing grids, we can decrease the Capex for the projects and cut costs. We connect to the low voltage grid, to enable fast charging but without this straining the grid. We are actually a bridge between hardware and software providers” says Matilda Thorsell.
Why did you see this opportunity and how has it been developed?
Matilda, a former management consultant and Mechanical Engineer, has her smartness in being good at getting people of different competencies to work together creating the best results.
LexEnergy works at the intersection of battery technology, charging technology, grid tech and software control. The company has grown to become a team of around 15 people. Lex Energy has a production line in Gothenburg and is about to scale up what they already have.
How has your cap table developed and are you raising money at the time of Sweden Sustaintech Venture Day?
”We have some great investors from the start like IKEA through Entreprenörinvest and Norrsken. We will open up early next year for a round, and therefore the timing of this event is perfect. There are some strong competent capital in the sector.”
”To be honest, we haven’t raised that much capital as we have a commercial inflow of money and a good business model. The next step is to cut production cost and cut prices for our clients, and for that capital is needed” concludes Matilda Thorsell.
